General

Parklands Community Preschool has been in operation for over 30 years providing quality care and education for young children aged between 2 - 6 years. We are a non-profit community service, licensed and funded by the Department of Education and Communities for 48 children per day. We are also able to access funding from Northcott under the Preschool Disability Support Program to help support children with additional needs who attend the service.

Families are welcome at the Centre to take part in the routine and activities. This can range from saving boxes for craft and helping on excursions, joining the management committee, helping with the garden, helping with social events to presenting experiences with the children.

We believe that parents and families are the most significant contributing factor towards their child’s development. As such, we believe in open and positive communication between families and educators to exchange information and to facilitate the meeting of individual needs and desires of each family in regard to the care and education of their child.

We are continually striving to meet the needs of our community, to make meaningful connections with the wider community and to be involved in community events.

At Parklands Preschool we believe that early childhood is a unique and valuable stage of life. We are committed to the care and overall development of each and every child and our vision is that children in our care experience learning that is engaging and builds success for life. Our Philosophy and Policies reflect the ideals represented in the National Quality Framework ( www.acecqa.gov.au) and the National Early Years Learning Framework. (www.deewr.gov.au/earlychildhood )

We believe that children’s play is the single most effective and appropriate vehicle for their learning and holds a place in their world equal to everyday experience. Play emphasizes learning through process rather than being judged by an end product. Through play children can be extended in interests and abilities and express their needs. Through play we can encourage co-operation, consideration, self-motivation and inclusive attitudes. We can encourage children to express themselves appropriately, communicate, listen to others, to make decisions and build resilience.

While your child is attending Parklands Community Preschool we strive to work together to guide your child’s development and learning by planning learning activities and stimulating indoor and outdoor environments.

Through the Early Years Learning Framework’s five learning goals educators will assist your child to develop:-

  • A strong sense of identity
  • Connections with their world
  • A strong sense of well-being
  • Confidence and involvement in their learning; and
  • Effective communication skills

By working together parents and educators can enhance a child’s learning and wellbeing.

As the most important person in your child’s life you can make a difference by talking regularly with your child’s early childhood educator and asking about their learning journey.

In each room we have Parent Communication boards where you can share information about your child e.g. what happened over the weekend, special events, your child’s interests, friendships etc. Additionally in each child’s individual record there is a space for parent comments and input. If you don’t have time to write something down that you would like to share you can do this verbally with your child’s educators. Information you provide allows educators to link your child’s experiences at home with the time they spend at preschool.

We hope you and your family enjoy your time at Parklands Community Preschool and we look forward to forming long lasting partnerships with you and your children. This is a very precious time in your child’s life and we endeavour to make it one they remember with happiness.
