General
Recently rated 'Exceeding' under the National Quality Standards, Parklands Community Preschool has been in operation for over 30 years in the Kariong Community, providing quality care and education for young children aged between 2-6 years.
Our Preschool is open from 8.30 a.m. - 3.30.p.m. Monday to Friday. We are open for 41 weeks per year and we operate as per the NSW Department of Education School Calendar.
We are located in a beautiful rural setting in Mt Penang Parklands, Kariong, overlooking green paddocks and the Mt Penang gardens and lake.
We are a non-profit community preschool, licensed and funded by the Department of Education and Communities. This means that all fees paid by parents and funding from government bodies are devoted to providing quality resources and opportunities for the children.
Our service operates within the guidelines of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Framework. We implement a child focused, play-based early education program guided by the practices and principles of the National Early Years Learning Framework . Our goals are to develop each child's sense of Belonging, Being and Becoming.
The educators at Parklands Community Preschool have all been trained in the provision of early childhood care and education. We have a core of mature, long term educators with many years experience in working with young children and their families.
We also have a strong environmental focus embedded in our daily routines and programs. We promote sustainablility by incorporating gardening, composting and recycling into our everyday activities. The children help look after our chickens, feeding them and collecting the eggs. We have a large rain water tank that we use to water our plants and to use in our play activities. We encourage outdoor play activities and a love and respect for nature and the environment. We are also connected to sustainability with the wider community, supporting Luis A Nastacuaz Moreano, our sponsored World Vision Child and involving our families in donating to the Burnside Christmas Charity at the end of the year.
As a community-based preschool, we are managed by a volunteer parent management committee. We also encourage our parents to join as general committee members or members of our fundraising committee or environmental committee. This means you can have a voice with regard to your child’s preschool environment and education.
Community Management Committee
Our Preschool is managed by a volunteer Parent Management Committee. Meetings are held each month at the Preschool to discuss Preschool business arising and ALL parents are invited to attend. Notices will be displayed in the foyer advising of meeting dates and times. Minutes of each meeting will be posted on the Committee Notice Board next to the front door.
The Annual General Meeting will be held on the last Monday in February each year. The current Executive Committee will step down and new office bearers will be elected. We need enthusiastic parent volunteers to take on the following executive positions so that Preschool Management can continue:-
• President
• Vice President
• Secretary
• Treasurer
• Public Officer
If you are interested in any of these positions please see Kerry for Nomination Forms.
We also invite parents to become General Committee Members which enables you to have voting rights on matters discussed at the meetings.
Additionally we have an active Fundraising committee and an Environmental committee to help raise funds to improve the preschool building and environment with a focus on sustainability.
Come along to the meetings and have your say in your child’s educational service.
